On 22 February 2011 a devastating earthquake struck Funtime's hometown of Christchurch, New Zealand, causing massive damage and many deaths. Large parts of the city were left without drinking water, power or sewerage outflow. Military, police and aid agencies from around the world assisted with relief and rescue efforts.

Funtime Comics was formed in 1991 by a group of artists and enthusiasts from the University of Canterbury. It has grown to provide a forum for promotion and discussion of comics by writers and artists throughout New Zealand.

The main focus of our group is the publication of our anthology, Funtime Comics Presents. We also hold workshops on a monthly basis.

In addition to our anthology we have also released a number of one off titles including the books Avatar, Only Fools and 'Toonists and the Register of New Zealand Comics (an ongoing listing of business, groups and individuals active in the New Zealand comic scene).

To keep in touch with each other we have a mailing list hosted by Yahoo! groups on which we discuss lots of things, ranging from publication issues, art theory, to arranging lunch dates...
